Google Launches Direct Hotel Bookings Within AI Search Mode

Google Introduces Direct Hotel Bookings and Loyalty Features in Search

Planning trips through Google Search is receiving a significant overhaul. Users in the United States searching in English can now complete hotel reservations directly within Search’s AI Mode, alongside new tools designed to monitor flight price fluctuations and evaluate loyalty reward rates.

The update streamlines the travel research phase by combining property comparison, rate tracking, and checkout into a single interface.

How In-Search Hotel Booking Works

When travelers input their destination and accommodation preferences into AI Mode, the platform generates a visual list of hotel options. These results allow users to evaluate guest reviews, key amenities, and pricing side by side.

For eligible properties, the search results feature a “Continue on Google” prompt. Clicking this option enables travelers to:

  • Choose their preferred room configuration
  • Review property cancellation guidelines
  • Finalize payment using Google Pay

While the transaction takes place within the Google interface, Google itself is not acting as the travel seller. The participating hotel chain or online travel agency remains the merchant of record and continues to manage customer service and reservation changes.

Google is launching the booking flow with 10 initial partners. The lineup includes online travel platforms Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Priceline, and Trip.com, as well as global hotel operators Choice Hotels International, Hilton, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

Flight Price Alerts and Loyalty Reward Pricing

In addition to direct hotel checkout, Google is expanding its travel planning tools with automated flight price tracking and reward redemption data.

Travelers can initiate flight price alerts directly inside an AI Mode prompt. Once the user confirms their intended route and travel dates, Google sends email notifications whenever fare prices shift. This tracking tool relies on live pricing data gathered from more than 300 partner airlines and travel websites. While price alerts can be set up directly in the search interface, actual ticket purchases still require users to click through to an external partner site. Flight tracking is available in more than 180 countries and territories, though regions within the European Economic Area (EEA) are currently excluded.

AI Mode is also integrating frequent flyer miles and hotel loyalty points into search results. Travelers can now view the required point values for supported flights and stays alongside cash prices, followed by a direct link to the provider’s website to complete the redemption.

The loyalty redemption feature initially supports:

  • Airlines: American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines
  • Hotels: Choice Hotels, Hilton, and Wyndham

Google plans to add several more loyalty programs in the coming weeks, including Accor, Flying Blue, Hyatt, LATAM Airlines, and Lufthansa Group. Reward pricing is accessible across supported AI Mode regions and languages, though certain capabilities remain restricted in EEA territories.

Evolution of Google’s Travel Strategy

The launch marks the first time users can complete a travel booking directly inside Google’s conversational search interface. Google originally teased fully integrated travel bookings in November 2025 without committing to a concrete release schedule. Later, at Google Marketing Live in May, the company confirmed that hotel checkouts were incoming and tied the capability to its Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP).

In its latest update, Google describes participating companies as “integrated partners,” though it has not clarified whether every partner relies on UCP for backend transactions.

For now, direct checkout is strictly limited to hotel stays; flight purchases continue to redirect travelers to external vendor sites. Google has not yet provided a timetable for native flight checkout, nor has it disclosed details regarding how hotel search results are ranked or what performance analytics integrated partners will receive.

Direct hotel checkout will continue expanding across the initial group of participating chains and booking sites over the coming weeks.
